Retail-J has added self-checkout support to its product line-up. The interface enables standard self-checkout features such as security scales, cash handling and attendant interventions.

The solution enhances Retail-J's XML APIs and extends core business logic to provide an integration platform to most types of self-checkout devices. The interface allows functions and transactions to be passed into and out of the Retail-J POS engine as XML.

Supported functions include weighed and tagged item handling, payment and dispensing slots and fraud prevention options such as tender limits and warnings. All standard Retail-J POS functions are also available to self-checkout terminals.

With hardware manufacturers offering different software 'adaptors' as the platform for integration, Retail-J has implemented a generic solution to integrate with both scan-and-bag and conveyor self-checkout systems such as Fujitsu's U-scan, NCR's Fastlane, Wincor Nixdorf's iScan and IBM models.

Leveraging Retail-J's open architecture, new self-checkout devices can be registed at Estate Manager - Retail-J's suite of central control applications - and, like POS, kiosks, customer service, HHT and other devices, they can be managed as another device in the estate with sales data captured online at head office - further extending Retail-J's multi-channel coverage.
